Department of Mass Communication, Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria
Abstract
This study explores how participatory communication can be used as a facilitator of poverty alleviation. It seeks to examine how participation, involvement and interest of beneficiaries in poverty alleviation projects will facilitate the process. This has become necessary given the level of poverty in Nigeria despite efforts by both the government and non-governmental agencies to contain the scourge. Development communication has been chosen as the theoretical framework, criticizing the extant paradigm of modernization, and arguing for the alternative paradigm of participation and self-reliance. Descriptive and evaluative design approaches have been adopted to elicit data from members of the Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) host communities in Jalingo Local Government Area, while documented assessment of CSDP micro projects in Taraba State from 2009-2012, questionnaire and interview serve as the major sources of data. The research discovers that community members were involved and actively participated in the activities of the CSDP micro projects in their communities. Results also indicate that the projects have impacted positively in the lives of beneficiaries. Thus the research concludes that participatory communication is key to poverty alleviation, hence recommending the approach to policy makers and development planners for maximum results.

ABSTRACT
Nigeria is a country made up of different ethnic groups with valuable cultural heritage which have shaping the life of her citizens. Despite the diverse multi facet cultural heritage, politics and party system in Nigeria have also played an immeasurable role in enlightening and shaping the life of an average Nigerian. With the competitive nature of multi-party system in Nigeria, some political parties have engaged in the use of fetish, immoral and debased acts in order to accomplish their political ambition. They have also employed cunning strategies to woo supporters for their party before any national election. Moreover, party faithfuls employ lies and false promises during campaign for political position knowing full well that they cannot keep to all their promises. In addition, on March 28, 2015 after the ruling party lost the presidential election in Nigeria, most dedicated and reliable party members in the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the party that won the presidential election few days after the election result was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). These are worrisome occurrence in the Nigerian political arena and it calls for self examination by party supporters because ‘the unexamined life is not worth living’. This work attempts a critical analysis of the moral decadence of party faithfuls in Nigeria politics.

Abstract
The relevance and use of ICT in every aspect of life cannot be over emphasized. It becomes necessary that everyone should have knowledge of ICT. As a relatively new development in Nigerian educational system it is seen as a tool for raising educational performance. The study therefore aimed at investigating the relevance of ICT on adult education in Imo State. The purposes are to ascertain the relevance of ICT in education of the back-to-school learners and whether the adults have knowledge of ICT services. To guide the study, two research questions and hypotheses each were addressed. Descriptive and inferential designs were employed aimed at collecting data from a sample of 500 adult education students from 4 tertiary institutions in Imo State. A 20-item questionnaire of likert-type was designed by the researchers named AEICTS, validated by experts in Measurement and Evaluation and in Information Technology. The responses collected were analyzed using frequency distribution table, mean rating and z-test statistic. The findings revealed that ICT is significantly relevant in adult education but the students generally do not have knowledge of ICT services. From the findings and their implications on adult education, recommendations were made for further studies.

ABSTRACT
Biogas is a gas produced from plant and animal wastes. It involves anaerobic digestion, a microbial process that occurs in the absence of oxygen. The amount of solid wastes generated in developing countries such as Nigeria has steadily increased over the last two decades as a result of population explosion and continuous growth of industries and agricultural practices. In agriculture, particularly cattle rearing, large quantities of cow wastes’ are generated, which could be used as biogas inputs to compliment fuel usage alternative. Poultry farming is the largest and fastest growing subsidiary within the agricultural sector in Nigeria, consequently, generating large volumes of waste which could be used to get more renewable energy. In this work, a comparative study of biogas production from cattle dung and poultry droppings was conducted. Biogas production was measured for a period of 40 days and an average temperature of 30.50C. The average biogas production from poultry droppings and cow dung was 0.0318dm3/day and 0.0230dm3/day respectively. It is concluded that the poultry droppings and cow dung can be managed through conversion into biogas, which is safe, cheap, and reliable source of energy with endless uses.

Abstract
This study evaluated the activities of Microfinance Banks (MFBs) in funding Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Stratified random technique was used to select a sample of fifty-five (55) respondents from eleven (11) among the population of thirty-one (31) registered MFBs in Osun State, Nigeria. Purposive random sampling technique was adopted in selecting one hundred and twenty (120) SMEs who are clients of MFBs particularly those that have benefited at one time or another from the funding activities rendered by the banks. The main source of data collection for the study was primary, using structured questionnaire. Data analysis techniques adopted include descriptive statistics, such as frequencies, percentages and weighted mean score, employed in determining availability of funding needs while the hypotheses for the study were tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis. The result indicated that the effectiveness of MFBs in their various operations with SMEs (r = 0.567; p = 0.000) was positively correlated with the impact of funding products of MFBs. Based on the result of the findings, the study concluded that SMEs are aware of MFBs funding products with the banks being major predictors of SMEs operation and performance. The study recommended that MFBs must design funding products to attract sufficiently large numbers of productive entrepreneurs and to provide incentives for SMEs to develop capacity for employment generation.

ABSTRACT
The concept of quality of life seems to be an indispensable one; particularly in the domain of health care and social services. Hence, the study examined a correlation among age, health locus of control, social support and the perceived quality of life of hypertensive patients. A purposive sample of two hundred (91 males and 109 females) hypertensive patients participated in the study. The age of this sample ranged between 25 and 75 years, means =46.35, SD =12.37. The sample was drawn from the outpatient cardiovascular ward of General Hospital Iwaro- Oka, Ondo –State, Nigeria. Three standardized psychological scales were used to collect data on health locus of control, social support and perceived quality of life of the sample. The data collected was analysed using correlation analysis. The result indicated that there was a positive correlation between age perceived quality of life of hypertensive patients (r{1,200}=.360; p<.01). In addition, social support and the perceived quality of life had positive correlation (r{1,200}=.114;p<.05). Moreover, there was no correlation between health locus of control and the perceived quality of life (r{1,200}=.017; p>.05). From the research results, responsible organizations and agencies should establish activities to promote social support for hypertensive patient to enhance their quality of life. Increasing public awareness to better understand basic needs for social support and providing education on nutrition and the age range related problems to the community were deemed important.
