ABSTRACT
It is the mantra in the academic world to either “publish or perish”. Without publications in peer review journals, and attendance in National and International Conferences, it is practically impossible for lecturers/tutors to proceed to the next career grade or promotion especially in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The current mantra “publish or perish” drives all faculty members and lecturers towards research and publication in reputable peer- reviewed “A” journals, Most especially in the universities. where the value of the publication is respected when it is in refereed “A” journals, preferably those which have achieved very high reputation. This paper is to examine the extent to which academic research papers must inform, educate, contribute to knowledge and entertain the practitioners who are engaged in practicals, either management or business work (industry practitioner). There are evidences in the western world of Europe, America and Australia especially, and in Africa that our management and business journals are neither read nor recognized by the industry practitioners. Do the practitioners and government officials even read or consult management journals in Nigeria?. The consequences for academics and other writers is that if our papers are not read by practitioners in the subject area then there is no need writing them. We can use the research papers for professional career promotion in their place of employment, but should this be the only reason?. We must try to write and publish our papers to meet the demands of academically related journals and publications, which will further our careers and also to use other outlets that are likely to be read by the industry practitioners. It is a somewhat difficult, but not an impossible task. The evidence from this paper especially from the United Kingdom, will lay semblance to what is obtainable in Nigeria. The readership of academic work most likely are disappointingly exclusive those in the academia. That if lecturers research writings must be useful, it must involve practical facts relevant to management managers, or industry practitioners who will invariably alter their reading habits to accommodate research writings. Managers must also contribute to research papers and journal articles, so as to make the journals attractive to bridge the marriage between the town and gown.

ABSTRACT
Financial information is pivotal to making investment decisions, hence the need for firms to ensure that financial reports are presented in a timely manner. The study examined impact of audit committee attribute on timeliness of financial reporting of listed financial institutions in Nigeria. Audit committee independence, Audit committee size and audit committee financial expertise constituted the audit committee attributes under study. The study covered a period of 5 years starting from 2014 to 2018. A sample of 47 financial institutions listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange was drawn from the total of 57 financial intuitions, giving a total of 235 observations. Secondary data were utilized in the study. The Hausman specification test conducted suggested the interpretation of the random effect regression. The random effect regression showed that, audit committee size and audit committee financial expertise are negatively and significantly impacting on financial reporting timeliness of listed financial institutions in Nigeria. In line with the outcome, the study recommended more membership of the audit committee should have financial expertise (at least 60%). In addition, large audit committee size is an effective mechanism for ensuring timely financial reporting.

ABSTRACT
Extant literature has shown the inherent benefits of Agro Cluster (AC) approach to regional development, but a limited approach to the role of policy makers have been analyzed. This paper seeks to present a conceptual framework for future research carrying out reviews of the role of policy makers in using cluster approach effectively in regional development. This study is primarily a conceptual paper focusing on the methodology of conducting empirical research on the moderating role of government policy on the relationship between business cluster and entrepreneurial innovation (EI). Nonetheless, this paper draws on a database of reviews of relevant research previously conducted on the relationship between the AC, public policies and EI. Based on the reviewed literature, we identify three dimensions that defines the relationship between AC and EI as well as the role of government policies: initial capital, human capital and technological support. This framework provides a basis that scholars might use to guide the conduct and evaluation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement on the development of the Africa region and in Nigeria in particular. It is expected that this study will provide useful procedural direction that will enhance efforts in the field of research advancement. Our contribution to the emerging literatures on ACs and its benefits lies in the application of this conceptual framework in conducting an empirical research across the Africa continent. Also, based on our literature review and the conceptual framework, we set forth future research areas to guide scholars’ efforts.

ABSTRACT
This research assessed the economic relevance of Moringa oliefera to the farmers and marketers in Katsina state this was prompted due to inadequate information in terms of the quantity of leaves and seeds produced and the turnover of Moringa in the study area. The research is a survey where twenty-four(24) M.oliefera farmers and sixty-five(75) M.oliefera marketers respectively were randomly sampled within nine(9) local government areas selected from the thirty-four LGAs’.Survey and interview were methods employed for data collection from farmers and marketers in the selected local government Areas. It was found that majority of Moringa farmers and marketers in the study areas are aged and receive no assistance from the government. Just as there is difference between farmers prices and marketers prices of Moringa (t-cal 6.160 >t-tab 6.030 df 8 at 0.05 level of significance), so also is there a difference between the demand of Moring leaves and seeds in the state(t-cal 11.170 > t-tab 2.306 df 8 at 0.05 level of significance), implying that the business is not only gainful in the state but Moringa leaves are used for nutritional and medicinal purposes in the state. It was recommended that the state government should not only enlighten the youths on the need for Moringa farming and marketing but as well provide the needed assistance to Moringa farmers and marketers so as not to eliminate the production and marketing of the product in the near future in the state.

ABSTRACT
This study examines the impact of telecommunication on the economic growth in Nigeria. The study includes telecommunication industry contribution to GDP, labour participation rate, capital trade openness and inflation rate to be the Regressor and economic growth to be the regression using a time series data from 1980 – 2018. The study’s model is based on Solow’s augmented growth theory. Thus, economic growth is estimated through autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) approach to cointegration to achieve the set objective. The results showed that both in the short-run and long-run telecommunication sector had significant positive impact on the economic growth (GDP) in Nigeria. At the same time other determinants of economic growth such as labour participation rate and trade openness have significant positive impact on the economic growth in the long-run. Therefore, government should expand Tele-density and directly make telephone communication cheap and accessible. To achieve this goal more licenses should be given to G.S.M operators in Nigeria in order to allow for healthy competition among the G.S.M operators in the country.

ABSTRACT
The accounting literature reports that the ability to set prices efficiently for products and services is supported by an effective costing system. Prior research indicates the dominance of pricing methods using fixed and variable cost information and discusses the benefits of applying sophisticated costing methods to aid in pricing decisions. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of cost information and costing systems in the pricing decisions of tourism organisations. Data was collected via an online survey instrument from a range of Nigerian tourism organisations. Full cost information was found to have relatively greater importance. Customer oriented and short-term survival objectives were found to be the more important pricing objectives. Several correlations were found between sophistication of the cost accounting system and choice of pricing method and objectives. This paper contributes to the literature by providing an analysis of the role of cost information and cost accounting systems in pricing decisions within Nigeria tourism organisations.

ABSTRACT
This paper investigated the potency of entrepreneurship to generate employment, thus, underscoring the quintessence, significance and relevance of this sub-sector in the sustainable development of any given economy. The objective of the paper is to examine entrepreneurship, employment and sustainable development nexus in Nigeria. Data sourced from Central Bank statistical Bulletin, National Bureau of statistics, World Development Indicators and CIA Fact Sheet and other institutional publications to provide empirical basis for the study spanned from 1980-2013. The methodology adopted in this research is the use of co integration and Vector Error Correction Mechanism (VECM) which established the long-run and short-run estimates of the parameters. On the long-run estimates, employment (LEMPL) and average capacity utilization (LCAP) are found to be statistically significant implying that employment and capacity utilization can be generated through entrepreneurship for sustainable development. Industrial Production index (LINPI) on the other hand is wrongly signed implying that it does not contribute to LHDI (sustainable development) for the period under review. The short-run estimates also show the significance of the parameters in respect to LEMPL and LINPI. The error correction mechanism (ECM) is rightly signed and significant. It shows that the speed of adjustment of the model from short-run distortions to long-run equilibrium is about 12.7%. The diagnostic tests of unit root showed that the variables are integrated of order one, I (1). This means that though individually the variables are non-stationary, a linear combination of the variables was stationary, hence they are co-integrated. Based on the findings the study recommends that if the Nigerian government must revitalize its economy, reduce unemployment progressively, and generate more employment opportunities for sustainable development, a paradigm shift in policy that is critical to effective entrepreneurship development becomes imperative. This can be done through building more capacity utilization and creation of enabling environment for industries to thrive.

ABSTRACT
This study examines the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) in the Nigerian Stock Exchange, (NSE) using monthly stock returns, the market index and the government Treasury bills rate as the risk-free interest rate. The study covers a period of 5 years from January, 2014 to December, 2018 which includes the recession time of Nigerian economy. The Beta of twelve companies listed on the NSE, the expected and actual returns were evaluated and compared. The finding of this study reveals limited applicability of the CAPM in the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Therefore, we conclude that the results are contrary to the CAPM standard theory (the expected return by CAPM not in equilibrium with the actual return), hence CAPM did not hold.

ABSTRACT
The study examined financial inclusion and its implications for economic growth and development in Nigeria from 1990 to 2019. The data used for this study were sourced from Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin. The dependent variable of financial inclusion proxied as real gross domestic product (RGDP) was regressed on the explanatory variables, which were Financial Deepening Index [expressed as Broad Money Supply to GDP(FDI)], Commercial Banks Deposit From Rural Areas (BDR), Commercial Bank Loans to Rural Areas (BLR) and Commercial Bank Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR). The Ordinary Least Square (OLS) model was employed to analyse the data. The statistical estimation of the OLS showed that Financial Deepening Index [expressed as Broad Money Supply to GDP (FD1)] has a significant positive impact on the dependent variable (RGDP) while Commercial Banks Deposit From Rural Areas (BDR), Commercial Bank Loans to Rural Areas (BLR) and loan to deposit ratio (LDR) have non-significant positive impact on the dependent variable (RGDP). The study concluded that provision of banking services in the rural areas will contribute positively to the economic growth and development of Nigeria. The study, among others, recommended that rural bank branches should be enabled to provide incentives to depositors and savers so as to encourage deposits and positively improve economic growth and development.

CHALLENGES OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION IN NIGERIA
GIDEON, VICTOR OLORUNFEMI Ph. D; & AGABA, ADAH EKOJA
Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER)
ABSTRACT
The amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria in 1914 marked a turning point in the evolution of the entity called Nigeria. The effect of this development was the fusion of diverse political entities involved. The amalgamation broadened the national boundaries and merged North and South into one country but ignored the need to integrate the various people for the new administrative entity. National integration was supposed to promote national development as it would blur and ameliorate ethnic, religious, political and cultural differences and enable the people to acquire a sense of shared citizenship and common national consciousness. The 1914 Amalgamation was not followed by a general redrawing of the boundaries of the administrative divisions of the unified entity as was done in the case of protectorate of southern Nigeria and the colony of Lagos in 1906. The result of this paradox created bedevilling imbalance between Northern and Southern Nigeria. What seems to exist is the crises of marginalization and practice of sectional and tribal politics which have negative consequences on the socio-economic and political lives of the citizenry. Politics, ethnicity, religion and culture have great effects on national integration in Nigeria. Though Nigeria is a multi- cultural, multi-ethnic, multi- religious and multi- party country, the combined territorial boundary is expected to bound the different ethnic groups together as a nation. However, those factors have rather made national integration very difficult in Nigeria. Recommendations for the promotion of national integration in Nigeria include: The religious, ethnic-cultural and political differences that often plague Nigeria and thereby negatively affect its national integration and unity must be urgently addressed. The major religions and leaders must begin to emphasis the need to embrace peace within the multi-religious and ethno-linguistic pluralism. Secularity should be embraced as the best option that can uphold peace and harmony in Nigeria. Religious fanaticism should be avoided in order to pave way for re-designing Nigerian society. The government should respond to religious crises on time in order to arrest the situation. Leaders should strengthen existing policies that promote tolerance of other people. General issues of governance should not be religionized or tribalized to the detriment of the collective good and Nigerians must learn to love one another and imbibe the spirit of patriotism and nationalism.

ABSTRACT
The uncertainty surrounding the nature of the consumers’ responses to the promotional activities has necessitated this study. The main purpose of this study is to explore the impact of consumer-oriented sales promotion tools on repeat purchases of MTN subscribers in Kano metropolis. The study adopted a descriptive survey and targeted a population of 5,480,694 subscribers of MTN services in Kano metropolis. A sample of 384 respondents were served with a structured, adopted and modified questionnaires using simple random sampling technique through the use of Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table of sample size determination. To answer the research questions, four hypotheses are formulated: price discount, coupons, buy-on-get-one free, and free samples) have significant positive impact on repurchase intention. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 21 and regression analysis was used at 5% level of confidence to test the hypotheses, determine the effect and the relationship between variables under study. Findings from this study revealed a significant positive impact of three independent variables (buy one get one free, free sample and price discount) on the dependent variable (repeat purchase) while coupons promotion does not predict repeat purchase. Therefore, the study indicated that, MTN Nigeria Plc. should pay more attention on buy one get one free, free sample and price discount tools of sales promotion in order to influence subscribers to continue patronizing their services. In addition, the management of the company, through their marketing department, should embark on serious awareness campaign for mobile subscribers to fully understand the benefits accrued to using coupon through orientations and integrated media communication.
