ALIGNMENT OF THE AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY (ABU) BACHELOR OF SCIENCE EDUCATION CHEMISTRY CURRICULUM WITH THE CONTENTS OF CHEMISTRY CURRICULUM FOR SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS
SAMUEL-OKEY, FATUMA COMFORT
Department of Integrated Science, Federal College of Education Zaria, Kaduna State
ABSTRACT
This study evaluated the ABU B.Sc. (Ed.) Chemistry Curriculum in relation to the professional needs of the SSS Chemistry teachers. The total population of 400 Level B. Sc. (Ed) Chemistry students (21) constituted the population of the study. The instruments for data collection were Difficult Topics in Chemistry questionnaire (DTC) and Chemistry Achievement Test (CAT). The DTC questionnaire which consisted of fifteen topics considered difficult, was validated and used by some earlier researchers in science education. The questionnaire was administered on the students to obtain their perception on the fifteen topics considered difficult. To further authenticate the response on the DTC, the CAT was administered on the students. The findings from the study showed that only two out of the fifteen topics were perceived by the students as difficult to understand. The study also showed that though the ABU B. Sc. (Ed.) Chemistry Curriculum contains relevant learning experiences to help prospective B.Sc. (Ed.) chemistry teachers perform effectively, the respondents could not answer simple SSCE questions given to them in the Chemistry Achievement Test. The findings calls to question the response obtained from the DTC questionnaire. Based on this findings some recommendations were made among which include: more emphasis should be placed on knowledge acquisition rather than certificate and examination scores, and hence all prospective Chemistry teachers should be tested on achievement in Chemistry before employment and also be given periodic training in Chemistry contents irrespective of the grades on their certificates.

ABSTRACT
Due to the devastating consequences of biodiversity loss on the ecosystem services and on the human life in particular, it is imperative to think clearly on how to apply the technique of a numerical mathematics to model biodiversity. One of the short term strategic ideas is to model the recovering from biodiversity loss to biodiversity gain by using a computationally efficient numerical scheme of ODE 45. The application of this method has enabled us to identify new parameter values of the intrinsic growth rates together that will consistently predict biodiversity gain. These new results that we have obtained have not been seen elsewhere; these are fully presented and discussed quantitatively.

Department of Architecture, Faculty of Environmental Studies, the Polytechnic, Ibadan.
ABSTRACT
The Slum settlements in many of 21st century Nigerian built environments are inevitable phenomena, essentially caused by rapid urbanization and the inequality in the provision and maintenance of housing and infrastructure. As a result, living condition in these settlements suffer from overcrowding, flooding, dilapidated structures, deteriorating air quality, improper waste disposal, limited access to clean water, poor sanitation and host of other physical deterioration and infrastructures decadence. This study examines and unravels the occurrence factors of slums in Ibadan, Nigeria, and the roles of Architects to its prevention and control. Data for the study were gathered from secondary sources, author’s observation & assessment and primary data collected from the residents of Eight (8) selected slum settlements in Ibadan, characterized by high densities. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage, frequency and cross-tabulation methods and it was found that slum is formed by various factors such as illiteracy, inadequate planned land use & non-secure land tenure, poverty, poor construction and weak development control. Finally, it posits that in regeneration policy; planning and implementation should be inclusive of the input of Architects working closely with slum dwellers, administrators and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that occurrences of slums are reduced to barest minimum.

ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study are: first, to develop a model for gonorrhea transmission and control; secondly, to derive an epidemic threshold and thirdly to prove the stability of both the disease-free and endemic equilibrium states. A system of ordinary differential equations was formulated. The effective reproduction number, as an epidemic threshold, was constructed using the next generation method. Using the linearization method, the local stability of the disease-free equilibrium state was proved for The stability of the endemic equilibrium state was established using the centre manifold theory.

ABSTRACT
In our today’s Information Technology (IT) industry, Imagine a world where billions of objects can sense, communicate and share information, all interconnected over public or private Internet Protocol (IP) networks. These interconnected objects have data regularly collected, analysed and used to initiate action, providing a wealth of intelligence for planning, management and decision making. This is the world of the Internet of Things (IoT). The security of lives and property is the key issue to be looked upon with keen interest by both Nigerian government and the populace, because a nation without adequate security of lives and property is a nation heading to doom. The security threat from different sects and groups to the nation is daily on the increase. This paper focuses on the application of this technology the Internet of Things (IoT) in curbing the security challenges in Nigeria.

ABSTRACT
Nutritional value and bioactivity of Zingiber officinale rhizome collected from Abubakar Gummi central market, Kaduna, Nigeria against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were carried out using standard procedures. Result of phytochemical screening reveals the presence of tannins, flavonoids, and steroids in the Zingiber officinale rhizome. The crude methanolic soluble extract (F1) and all the fractions with the exception of water soluble fraction (F3) demonstrated broad spectra of activity against the isolates both at 103 and 102 µg/ml. The F3 was found inactive against the isolates at 102 µg/ml. Z. officinale rhizome could serve as a potential source of therapy for the treatment of gastroenteritis.

ABSTRACT
Peace and sustainable security is fundamental in every society, thus living in fear and uncertainty is the most dreaded situation. Since 2009, Nigeria has been battling to end an insurgency orchestrated by Boko Haram sect. Fatal activities of the sectarians claimed over ten (10) thousand lives, destroyed properties worth billions of Naira and displaced over two (2) million people in the North eastern part of the country. This paper therefore, examined how human right violation in form of police brutality caused indignation and collective action which started as reprisal attack, but metamorphosed to violent extremism; it traced the origin of the Nigerian police and discovered why they behave in the particular way. The paper also exposes how impunity and negligence of authorities gave birth to, and nurtures the insurgency; the modus operandi and dimensions of the insurgency; casualties recorded as result of the apocalyptic activities of Boko Haram sects; and effects of the insurgency on the development of the country. Specifically, the paper adopts the relative deprivation theory to explain why Boko Haram sect took up arm and embarked on rampant indiscriminate killings, and proffered possible solutions to arrest the menace and forestall its reoccurrence.

Abstract
This paper is a postcolonial study of la Secrétaire particulière written in 1973 by Jean Pliya. It is a play of five acts that describes the socio-political status of African nations especially the civil servants in the public service in Benin Republic where comes the author. The aim of this work is: to reveal the elements of colonialism in the Republic of Benin; to examine the economic, political and socio-cultural effects of colonial power on the colonized and the coloniser; and to decolonise the local through anti-colonial agency in this drama. This paper uses postcolonialism and its discursive strategies such as Irony, Allegory, Colonialism, Imperialism and Contamination to analyse the themes such as Corruption in the Public Service, Exploitation of Black by Black, Decolonisation of African Culture, Unemployment and Female-child Education and Public job in la Secrétaire particulière. The conclusion reveals that elements of colonialism can still be read in the behaviours, practices and minds of African people especially people in the Republic of Benin despite years of Independence of this French colony and that the anti-colonial agency stands by resisting neo-colonialism and decolonising the local.
