ENTREPRENEURIAL NETWORKING AND WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS’ CONTRIBUTION TO EMPLOYMENT CREATION IN RIVERS STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between entrepreneurial networking and women entrepreneurs’ contribution to employment creation in Rivers State. The study adopted a cross sectional survey design to solicit responses from women entrepreneurs in Rivers state, using simple random. The target population of Women Entrepreneurs in Rivers State was 329 obtained from the 2017 Directory of the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs and Rivers State Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The sample size was 181 using the Taro Yamen’s formula. After data cleaning, only data of 153 respondents were finally used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics and Spearman’s rank correlation were used for data analysis and hypothesis testing. Findings revealed that entrepreneurial networking has a significant relationship with women entrepreneurs to employment. The study thus concluded that entrepreneurial networking bears a positive and significant influence on women entrepreneurs’ contribution to employment creation .We recommend that women should be engaged in entrepreneurial education to develop right competencies, skills and needed entrepreneurial capacities.

EFFECTS OF CAPITAL STRUCTURE ON FIRMS FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE (CASE STUDY COMMERCIAL BANKS IN MAIDUGURI, NIGERIA)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was is to investigate the influence of capital structure on firms financial performance a case study of commercial banks in Maiduguri, Nigeria. Results indicates that equity finance, debt finance, optimal capital structure had significant effect on firms financial performance in commercial banks in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The study findings indicated that there was a strong positive relationship (R= 0.637) between the variables. From the study findings it was conclude that equity finance, debt finance, optimal capital structure had a strong positive relationship on firms financial performance in a commercial banks in Maiduguri, Nigeria because there was evident that at 100% confidence level.

IMPACT OF MULTIPLE TAXATION ON BUSINESSES IN NIGERIA.

Abstract

Nigeria is made up of three tiers of government, the Federal, State and Local Governments. Each of these tiers collects taxes in order to boost its revenue. However,   some of these taxes   are   collected by all the tiers which results in cases of multiple taxation. This paper   examines   the implications of multiple taxation on businesses operating in Nigeria. Data was obtained from secondary sources. Findings revealed that some of the implications of multiple taxation in Nigeria include: constitution of illegal and inappropriate taxation and legislation, crippling of some   industries, hindrance to investment in the country etc. It is   recommended that in order to overcome the problem of multiple taxation each tier of government should only collect taxes applicable to it as enshrined in relevant laws.

Abstract

This work aimed at determining some specific implications of collective bargaining in the effectiveness of workers among Nigerian public sector-organization. The abysmal performance of workers as epitomized by poor overall output of the public sector-organizations constitutes the major problem that necessitated the conduct of this study. This is paper conceptual paper.l To facilitate accumulation of relevance secondary data as the basis for establishing conceptual framework, pertinent literature were explored. This work revealed among others that effective collective bargaining breeds atmosphere of mutual trust, confidence, cooperation and harmonious relationships among employers, managements, and workers, hence, fostering increased workers’ morale and commitment toward meeting performance targets of public organizations.

MARKETING STRATEGIES AND PATRONAGE OF BANKING SERVICES IN NIGERIA

Abstract

The research work is concerned with ‘marketing strategies and patronage of banking services in Nigeria’, a case study of Diamond Bank Plc Bauchi. The study was aimed at ascertaining the relationship between application of marketing strategies and patronage in banking industry. Also Data were administered and collected from staff and customers of Diamond bank and analyzed using correlation statistical tool. The findings from research show that marketing strategies have a significant association in contributing to the patronage of banking service, also they increase the possibility of attracting competitors’ customers known as customer switch. Finally, the study made recommendations which include; since the banking service is competitive, effective marketing strategies should be employed in order to create an edge in the industry. It was also suggested that effective customer relationship management on patronage of banking service should be the focus of future research for interested researchers.

Abstract

This research is aimed at investigating effectiveness of store management as a tool for improved performance in public corporation in Bauchi state. The main objectives are; to find the effect of store management on the performance of public corporation, to determine the impact of information and communication technology on store management, and to find out the challenges facing the effective store management practice. The research used semi structured question for interview. This is to enable the research clarify questions where the respondent don’t understand the question and/or the answer may warrant other questions. It was therefore, discovered that the store workers need to be well trained on the latest technology about store management, the store should improve on the use of ICT tools in managing its activities so as to monitor the trend of the store effectively.

ENTREPRENEURIAL INNOVATION AT NIGERIA INSTITUTE OF LEATHER AND SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY, ZARIA A PANACEA FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Several agencies of government such as NILEST are established to act as mediators in assisting SMEs within the same industry to make among others, adoption decisions for growth and development. Despite these, the challenges of SMEs still persist as it only contributes 25% to employment and 46% to GDP. However, the qualitative method of research was adopted in conducting this study and secondary source of data was used in the write up of literature. Findings from this study indicated that the Nigeria Institute of Leather and Science Technology, Samaru Zaria, has been identified in this article as a breeding ground for to be entrepreneur in Leather and Science Technology. Meditating roles of third party organizations in adoption studies are few cover such roles as training, promotion, faciliting, providing advice and conducting research for growth and development of entreprise. Innovation and Entrepreneurship is the process of creating something new with value by devoting the necessary time and effort assuming the accompanying financial psychic and social risks, and receiving the resulting rewards of monetary and personal satisfaction and independence. To account for this increasing interest in entrepreneurship, the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology, Zaria, has been teaching various courses in entrepreneurship and Small Business Management to enhance students to test their entrepreneur and business acumen for self reliance and sustenance in Leather Technology, Polymer Technology, Chemical Technology, Science Laboratory Technology and Production Management, among others after graduation.

EFFECT OF MOBILE BANKING ON SERVICE DELIVERY IN NIGERIA DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS

Abstract

Today, the advancement of mobile technologies has provided an opportunity for financial service providers in introducing new financial innovations. One of the emerging financial innovations introduced by financial providers is the mobile banking or m-bankingThis paper reviews the effect of mobile banking on service delivery in Nigeria Deposit Money Banks. Samples of Forty (40) questionnaires selected at random were administered. The data was presented using tables and also analyzed using percentages. The findings revealed that mobile banking positively influence service delivery of DMBs in Nigeria. Mobiles banking are highly efficient in service delivery to customers due to its flexibility and skilled manpower. It is recommended that there is the need in creating awareness to inform the public about the benefits derived from the e-banking service product, Skilled manpower and computer wizard should be employed by every Bank, in other to prevent fraudulent personnel and hackers from manipulating the Banks data and stealing money from the Banks accounts, Provision and maintenance of public network, system such as telephone. The availability of these basic infrastructures is fundamental to the efficient functioning of the mobile banking services.

PERVERSE MANIFESTATION OF POVERTY IN NIGERIA: A FAILURE OF GOVERNANCE

Abstract

The 2005 World development indicators indicate that global poverty is being Africanize. That is to say, poverty is moving southwards and is being consolidated in Africa south of the Sahara. In Nigeria for instance, the perverse manifestation of poverty has attained an endemic nature and is becoming worrisome. It has sustained the last frontier of hunger, ignorance and diseases, thus, government failed woefully to contrive a roadmap to a more prosperous existence of her teaming population. One plagues that have sabotaged Nigeria`s escape from poverty is the poor governance The paper highlights policy formulation/implementation gap, resource allocation, corruption and lack of political will as the major challenges. The paper then concludes with cogent recommendations on the role of the government, and the international community in tackling poverty via good leadership and governance.

THE IMPERATIVE OF PAPERLESS OFFICE FOR THE SUSTENANCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (A CASE STUDY OF BAUCHI L.G.A.)

Abstract

The present day rapid development of ICT- world has affected scores of ways of doing things all over the world. The impact of application of ICT towards reducing global warming, improved  productivity, reduction in course of printing, storage and retrieval of document through ‘paperless office’ has been posing a lot of concern and the reason for these are numerous. This paper intends to sensitize on the concept of paperless office, its application toward sustainable development, its components, challenges and possible solutions. The write-up employed the use of questionnaire to collect data from the Personnel Department of Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State. Likert mean rating scale was adopted in analyzing the data. Conclusion was reached that paperless office will exist but not in this epoch of unfavorable power supplies and other artificial problems facing Nigeria. It also recommends the adoption of paperless office system in office administration and management as a tool for improved productivity, efficiency and sustainable development in all sectors of the Nigerian economy specifically Local Government Management and Administration.

EFFECTIVE FINANCING AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF ENTREPRENEURS TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (A STUDY OF SOME SELECTED FIRMS IN BAUCHI METROPOLIS, BAUCHI STATE NIGERIA)

Abstract

The industrial revolution brought about a shift from the orthodox trade by barter to a more sophisticated marketing system, where consumers satisfaction becomes the ultimate goal of every business. The contributions of small and medium enterprise to economic growth and sustainable development are globally acknowledged and there is an increasing recognition of its pivotal role in employment generation, income redistribution and wealth creation. Despite the important contribution of small firms to the economy or national development, small firms are plagued by many problems including inadequate and less effective financing, stagnation and failure in most African countries. This research work is aimed at achieving the impact of effective financing on the growth of entrepreneurship and expansion capacity to the development of the nation. Evaluation of problems encountered by entrepreneur in utilization of the available opportunities or facilities as regards to fixed assets like land and location. The study employed primary and secondary data which was analyzed with the aid of descriptive statistical analysis and our findings suggested that most small firms business got their start up capital from either family or friends, from personal savings, sale of personal assets and also through grant. The study recommended that Sustainable and reliable strategies or policies should be put in place by the government to protect small firms for the development of the nation’s economy.

GENDER EQUALITY AS CATALYST TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA

Abstract

This study determines the perceived contributions of gender equality to sustainable development and strategies to be deployed towards bridging gender inequality and promoting women’s empowerment for sustainable development. Descriptive correlational research design was employed to describe the relationship between the dependent and independent variables and to establish any association between these variables. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 120 respondents from Ibadan metropolis as a sample for the study. The instrument used in this study was researchers developed questionnaire for the study, while data analyzed was performed with the aid of Mean and Chi-Square. Results reveal that gender equality has positive and significant relationship with sustainable development in Nigeria. Results also indicate that provision of gender sensitive education, passing bill of gender equality by the National Assembly and implementation of the 50/50 gender equality policy as canvassed by the United Nations across the globe are the major strategies to be deployed towards bridging gender inequality and promoting women’s empowerment for sustainable development in Nigeria. Subsequently, the study recommends that government at various levels should encourage higher enrollment rate for girls in primary and secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions. Also, the current government should ensure that gender equality bill is passed into law, and implementation of the 50/50 gender equality policy in the political appointment.

PETROLEUM PROFIT TAX LAW IN NIGERIA: AN OVERVIEW

Abstract

Tax polices represents key resource allocator between the public and private sections in a country. It is usually imposes on individuals and entity that make up a country. The fund provided by tax are used by states to support certain state obligations. This study examines the draft national petroleum profit tax policy with a view to identify corrections to perceived flaws inherent in the document. To enhance the understanding of this paper, we begin with making a review Nigeria’s petroleum profit tax system and the current draft national petroleum profit tax policy. We will attempt to identify the challenges inherent in the current return and proffer strategies for an efficient petroleum profit tax regime in Nigeria. This paper has reviewed the petroleum profit tax law in Nigeria from 1904 to the ongoing tax reforms; in the reviewed tax reform, we observed that they meet the requirement for a national petroleum profit tax policy. The paper however identified and took into consideration, a number of flaws that could affect the efficient workability of the policy. It presented highlights of these flaws and proffered the way forward with regards to applicability in Nigeria. On the basis of the foregoing, it is recommended that government should consider taxpayers in fiscal policy formation and implementation in order to achieve improved tax compliance rate in the country.

Abstract

It is a management function which deals with the relations between two or more organizational public both national and international producing the kind of relationship used by these organization in the public. Is the state of being public or the act or fact of making or becoming public. Is the establishment of understanding and goodwill between an organization and its publics. Public relation has the power of information to influence public opinion. Public relations as a management function which evaluates public attitude, identifies the policies and procedure of an individual or an organization with public interest, plans and execute a programme or action to earn public understanding and acceptance. Public relation is the act of relating very well with the people around you. It is when you relate very-well that is when you are sure of mutual existence.

BUDGETARY CONTROL AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA

Abstract

The study is about Budgetary Control and Financial Performance in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria. Budgetary Control provides a comprehensive management platform for efficient and effective allocation of resources. This study was guided by the following objectives: (1) to establish how budget planning has ensured value for money in Nigerian tertiary institutions, (2) to examine how budget implementation, and coordination has ensured proper utilisation of resources in Nigerian tertiary institutions, (3) to establish how budget monitoring and evaluation has led to improved quality in service delivery in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Nickson and Mears (2012) examined the relationship budgetary control and performance of tertiary institutions in Nigeria but did not test hypothesis for the relationship between budgetary control and financial performance in tertiary institutions and this study filled the gap. This study used a combination of both positivism and phenomenology research approaches on a case study. The cross sectional study used explanatory approach to establish causal relationship between the variables. This study used Stratified Random Sampling to pick 76 respondents from Management, Finance, Works and Statistics departments. The sample size wasdetermined using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) Table in Appendix 3. Primary data was collected using Self-administered questionnaires and interview guides and it was analysed using SPSS V20 for descriptive statistics and a regression model. This study found that budget planning (p<0.05) and monitoring and control (p<0.05) are the statistically significant independent variables that influenced financial performance by 0.432 and 0.810 respectively; while implementation, coordination and evaluation did not significantly influence financial performance (p > 0.05).  The study concluded that the influence of budgetary control was realised in spending less money on resources, efficiency of the institution in terms of minimisation of resources used while providing services and slight improvement in the economy of the institution. This study recommends that the management of tertiary institutions in Nigeria should ensure a high level of adherence to budget items while implementing projects and activities and it should also preserve consistent coordination within the institutional departments so as to improvement in the financial performance.
